Water Carriers

TasWater does not directly operate any water cartage services; however there are a number of water carriers operating across the state who deliver water supplies to properties.  Water carters are required to be licensed and registered through the local council in the areas they operate.  Contact details for most carriers can be found under Water Carters in the Yellow Pages.

Water carriers are reminded that there are specific requirements and conditions for accessing water from TasWater's reticulation system.  In particular, water carriers are reminded that it is illegal to access TasWater's network through hydrant points or fire services for water other than for firefighting purposes.

Northern Region

Within the Launceston area, an automated system is provided for water carriers, where a prepaid TasWater card is used to operate and access the water filling point at five locations.  The smart card allows you to access water up to the volume loaded on the card.  Once the limit has been used, you will need to recharge the card with additional volume.

The application for a Smart Card at Launceston water filling points can be found here.

Most northern urban filling points operate on an honesty system where access is gained through a key and usage is measured via a log book where a copy of each pick up is placed in a deposit box at the site. TasWater will be transitioning these filling points so that water can be accessed by an electronic key.

There are nine water stations that are operable, details as shown below:
