Margate sewage treatment plant works

TasWater contractors will continue works at the Margate sewage treatment plant, Dru Point.

This work is part of the Kingborough Sewerage Project and will see the treatment plant converted to a pump station that will transfer flows to the upgraded Blackmans Bay sewage treatment plant. This will result in better environmental outcomes for North West Bay.

Noticeable odour

Storage tanks - Margate PS.jpg

As we move into the second phase of works to convert the Margate sewage treatment plant to a pump station, we are now diverting flows from one section of the lagoon to another to prepare for excavation works to allow the installation of underground emergency storage tanks. These tanks will take any flows as a result of extreme wet weather events or power outage.

Over the course of the next eight weeks residents and recreational users of Dru Point will notice fluctuations in odour as we drain and transfer sludge out of the lagoon.

We apologise for the impact.
