Bushfire awareness

Tasmania’s bushfire danger period runs from October to March, with peak risk in January and February, when vegetation is dry and hot winds are more common. Extreme fire danger can occur anytime throughout the fire danger period, even outside of the peak months.

To help protect the community, TasWater customers are asked to avoid non‑essential water use on total fire ban days.

Customers are asked to:

• Turn off all sprinkler systems, including automatic systems
• Restrict hose use to essential needs such as fire prevention or firefighting
• Delay watering gardens, washing vehicles or windows until the ban is lifted.

If you live in a bushfire-prone area, consider having:

• An independent water supply or alternative water source as part of your bushfire plan
• An emergency supply of drinking water stored for your household’s needs

Efforts are made to minimise risks to the community during bushfire season, including:

• Maintaining clear access to our assets, and the surrounding area
• Ensuring backup generators are available
• Carting water to impacted areas if necessary
• Conducting ongoing statewide fire hydrant testing and maintenance
• Working closely with the Tasmanian Fire Service
