Deloraine WTP automated filter to waste

What's this project all about?

Deloraine Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is a Dissolved Air Flotation and Filtration (DAFF) plant and does not have a filter to waste system.

Filter to waste capability allows high turbidity filtrate to be diverted to waste. High turbidity filtrate can lead to reduced drinking water safety outcomes. The lack of an automated filter to waste system contributed to a Deloraine Boil Water Alert incident in 2018.

The aim of this project is to develop and install an automated filter to waste system. This includes the following components:

  • Mechanical and piping design
  • Electrical design
  • Civil design to bury existing manual filter to waste piping (or decommission if necessary)
  • Control functional description to allow automation of filter to waste
  • Identify appropriate disposal location for filter to waste to discharge
