What's this project all about?
To provide Whitemark residents with improved drinking water security, this project will increase the amount of bulk water storage available in Whitemark.
By increasing the height of Henderson Dam, its storage volume will increase from 40 megalitres (ML) to 85 ML.
In October 2020, a temporary Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Treatment Plant was commissioned at Lady Barron and an additional above-ground temporary raw water storage dam was constructed alongside the Whitemark Water Treatment Plant. These were necessary to ensure water security for Whitemark residents during major works, which require that Henderson Dam be emptied completely to allow construction access to the dam wall.
Due to water restrictions in Whitemark, water carting from the Lady Barron RO Plant commenced on 4 January 2021 . This ensures there is a continuous water supply throughout the Henderson Dam upgrade. Stage 1 water restrictions are expected to be in place until 31 October, 2021.
