Lake Fenton Lake Fenton Pipeline upgrade, New Norfolk

What's this project all about?

The Lake Fenton bulk transfer main was constructed in 1937, and the water supply scheme of Lake Fenton/Lady Barron Creek was commissioned in 1939. This 70km pipeline transports water from Lake Fenton to the Lower Reservoir at the Waterworks complex in South Hobart and is responsible for providing 20 percent of Greater Hobart’s drinking water.

Due to the age of the existing pipeline and failures experienced in the past, between January and June 2022 we replaced a 1.3-kilometre section of pipeline along Poulters Road and Grist Street, New Norfolk.

Project update

October 2022

In June 2022 we completed this $5.3M project as part of TasWater's commitment to improve the reliability of Greater Hobart's water supply system moving into the future.

The new pipeline is now fully operational.

TasWater thanks the community for their patience and understanding while we delivered this important project.
