Claremont Lake Fenton Pipeline Upgrade

What's this project all about?

The Lake Fenton bulk transfer main was constructed in 1937. The 70km pipeline transports water from Lake Fenton to the Lower Reservoir at the Waterworks complex in South Hobart and is responsible for providing 20% of Greater Hobart’s drinking water.

In recent years, various sections of the Lake Fenton pipeline have experienced failures resulting from corrosion caused by age. As a result, we will replace an 810 metre section of the pipeline that passes through Claremont to ensure greater reliability of Greater Hobart’s water supply system moving into the future.

Project updates

June 2022

The 810 meter section of pipe has been installed and waiting for cut over. There were delays with cutting over due to water restrictions over summer, and a series of events out of our control. Cut over is now expected to be in Late July.

Some properties around the Glenlusk area may experience water pressure issues over the few days of cut over, these properties will be notified directly.

Project timeline

Construction commenced in June 2021
The project is expected to be completed by end of 2022.
