Pet Dam Pet Dam Safety Upgrade

What's this project all about?

Pet Dam is located 13 kilometres south of Burnie on the Pet River. It was originally constructed in 1956 and its height was subsequently raised in 1966. Pet Dam holds 4,210 megalitres of water at full supply level (FSL), achieved via an earth fill embankment 340 metres long and 4.9 metres wide.

Following a review, it has been identified that the construction of the Dam does not meet the latest design standards. As a consequence, the Dam will be upgraded to meet these modern design standards.

Project timeline

The project is currently in the planning phase. The delivery schedule will be confirmed at a later date.
