Scholarship

The TasWater Steve Balcombe Scholarship is available to Tasmanian students commencing full-time study in an area relevant to TasWater's core activities – engineering, environmental science or earth science. 

This scholarship allows recipients to gain insight and experience in the water industry and participate in real projects with real outcomes to improve the delivery and quality of water, protection of the environment and to improve the essential services we all take for granted.  Past recipients of the scholarship have made valuable contributions in their chosen careers.  Long-term, the capacity of the water industry will be enriched through continued investment in these fields.

The TasWater Steve Balcombe Scholarship offers the recipient practical experience as well as financial support.  Experience undertaken while completing their degree is often invaluable to students when they enter the workforce.
The TasWater Steve Balcombe Scholarship, previously offered by Hobart Water, is in honour of the inaugural Hobart Water chairman Steve Balcombe. 

Mr Balcombe was an engineering graduate of the University of Tasmania and had a distinguished career in both the public and private sectors in Tasmania before his premature death in March 2001. The TasWater Steve Balcombe Scholarship provides $6,000 per year for up to four years to the successful applicant. To find out more about the scholarship and how to apply please call TasWater on 13 6992 or email [email protected]
