Major upgrade complete at Green Point Sewage Treatment Plant
Bridgewater locals will benefit from more reliable wastewater services following the completion of a major upgrade of the Green Point Sewage Treatment Plant.
The project included upgrades to the plant’s electrical and control systems, improvements to the two anaerobic digesters, and the installation of a new biogas system. Together, these upgrades will contribute to a more efficient treatment process while helping to minimise odours and improve overall plant performance.
TasWater Project Manager Derrick Clack said the upgrade is part of TasWater’s ongoing investment to support growth across the greater Hobart region.
“Modernising ageing infrastructure helps us deliver more reliable services while reducing odours and improving overall performance.
“As with all brownfield projects, the Green Point Treatment Plant still had to be in operation while the upgrade works took place.
“It can be quite challenging to have the plant run while construction works are underway, but the operations team worked seamlessly while we commissioned and integrated the new plant and equipment into the existing infrastructure.
“These system improvements ensure the treatment plant can continue to meet the needs of the growing Bridgewater community now and into the future.
“Special thanks to the local community for their patience during construction, which involved increased vehicle movements and on-site activity. Throughout the project, measures were implemented to manage impacts and minimise disruption to nearby residents, businesses and visitors,” Mr Clack said.
The Green Point project forms part of TasWater’s ongoing investment in sewerage infrastructure to support Hobart’s future growth and ensure essential services continue to perform in a safe, reliable and environmentally responsible way for every Tasmanian.
