Conscious water use needed in parts of Tasmania
Little to no rain over the last fortnight has areas in Tasmania on close watch for
potential water restrictions.
While there are no restrictions in Tasmania currently, we encourage all Tasmanians to be
conscious of the water they use at all times.
There has been patchy, but not significant rain over the last few weeks and the Bureau of
Meteorology now predicts less rainfall for the next three months than originally forecast.
Conditions since the start of January have been dry across most of the state.
We ask residents in Orford and Triabunna to reduce their water consumption now as
water levels continue to fall.
We also ask residents on Lady Barron to reduce water consumption as bore levels have
fallen to the lowest on record.
We will monitor the situation in both these communities closely with an update to be
provided in the next week.
Other systems on watch are:
• Launceston: Flows in the North Esk River are expected to remain low over the
coming week, with little rainfall currently forecast.
• Conditions have improved in Strahan over the last two weeks, but flows in the
river are low for this time of year.
As always, we encourage all Tasmanians to conserve water and Save Our Thing where
possible. It might seem like there is plenty of water around the state, but that is not the
case.
Small changes to water usage, like taking shorter showers and using the half-flush on
the toilet, add up to have a huge impact on water supplies across the state. For up-to date system information, go to Water supply status | TasWater
