Free water offer just the start of sustainability initiatives
Tasmanians could win a year’s worth of free water simply by signing up to receive their water bills via email as part of TasWater’s push for improved sustainability outcomes in its new Strategy.
TasWater’s Head of Communication and Engagement Callan Paske said the eBilling campaign was one way in which the business was working to deliver better outcomes for Tasmanians and the environment.
“The eBilling campaign is a great example of a seemingly small action we are taking to improve outcomes for our customers and the environment,” Mr Paske said.
“Tasmanians have told us they care about our unique Tasmanian environment, and they want us to prioritise environmental benefits,” he said.
“Not only is eBilling a more convenient and cost-effective solution, but it also helps us reduce carbon emissions and lower our energy use.
“Little actions can add up to great change over time.
“I encourage Tasmanians to go to our website and sign up to receive their water bills via email by September 23, 2024.
“Rest assured, winners won’t have to worry about taking delivery of their free water - they will simply receive a $1,400 credit on their account.”
Mr Paske said experts from TasWater were presenting to industry leaders and participants at the Australian Water Association’s ‘Where the Waters Meet’ conference in Hobart as part of the launch of the organisation’s new Strategy today.
“Our new Strategy outlines a great range of initiatives and actions that we will execute in the coming years as part of our vision to unlock water's full potential.
“There are some big stretch targets in our new Strategy that we believe will drive better outcomes for customers and the environment.
For example, by 2030, we aim to have reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent and the amount of waste we send to landfill by 25 per cent.
“We are also working hard to reduce our total nitrogen and phosphorus discharge by 30 per cent and 25 per cent respectively by 2030.
“There are seven presentations from our people today at Where the Waters Meet, on topics including how we engage with the community, how we protect sensitive waterways, what we are doing to empower women in what is traditionally a male-dominated industry and what our pathway to net-zero carbon looks like.
“We have some amazing people here at TasWater and it’s always pleasing to see them on stage as industry leaders,” Mr Paske said.
He said TasWater’s new Strategy sets an ambitious and outcomes-based direction for the future of TasWater.
“Our Strategy reflects the voice of our customers, stakeholders and TasWater’s people, and it positions us to prepare for and respond to the changing world around us,” Mr Paske said.
