Hurricanes go into bat to Save our thing

In a unique collaboration to promote sustainable water use, TasWater has partnered with the Hobart Hurricanes to highlight everyday water-saving habits from some of Tasmania’s top cricket players.

The initiative is part of the broader Save Water. Save Our Thing campaign, which encourages Tasmanians to take simple, practical steps to conserve water in their daily lives. Through a series of short videos and interviews, Hurricanes players share how they incorporate water-wise practices into their routines - on and off the field.

Mitch Owen, known for his dynamic presence on the pitch, keeps his showers short and reuses leftover water from his drink bottles to hydrate his garden. He’s even swapped traditional ice baths for a refreshing dip in the ocean after games.

“You don’t need to overhaul your life to use water wisely,” Mitch says.

“It’s the small things, done consistently, that add up.”

Iain Carlisle takes a musical approach to water conservation, timing his showers to the length of a single rap song. He also uses a shower timer to stay mindful of his water use.

“A shower timer’s a great way to stay conscious about how long you’re in there,” Iain said.

Mac Wright, a self-proclaimed cat dad and indoor plant enthusiast, ensures no water goes to waste. He uses leftover water for his plants and only waters his garden during optimal times of the day.

“One easy action everyone should try is setting sprinklers on a timer,” Mac said.

The campaign aims to inspire Tasmanians to adopt similar habits, proving that water conservation is achievable for everyone - regardless of lifestyle.
