Investigative smoke testing of Wynyard’s sewerage network

TasWater is conducting smoke testing at Wynyard next week to help identify any potential cracks and defects in the town’s sewerage network.

Senior Water Services Operator Sebastian Newman said the testing involved injecting an odourless non-toxic smoke into the sewerage system and monitoring the points of its release.

“A smoke testing blower will be used to release non-toxic smoke into the system.”

“The odourless smoke will make its way through the network, helping to identify any leaks, cracks or other defects,” Mr Newman said.

“We are undertaking this testing as part of ongoing investigations into reports of odour in the area.”

While this testing is underway, people might notice some smoke emerging from sewer or stormwater systems in the area, but it is no cause for concern.

“There will be no disruption to Wynyard’s sewer services during the testing.” Mr Newman said.

“We thank the community for their understanding as we undertake this important project that will ensure our assets deliver reliable service for future generations.”

TasWater has engaged Tasmanian contractor AJ Water to conduct the smoke testing which will occur on Tuesday 18 January 2022, between 7.30am and 4.30pm.

If any residents have any questions or concerns about the testing, they are encouraged to contact TasWater on 13 6992.
