Stage 2 water restrictions implemented for Whitemark

Stage 2 water restrictions will apply for Whitemark, on Flinders Island, from Saturday 15 January 2022 until Saturday 30 April 2022. This is to ensure the community has a continuous water supply over the warmer months due to the Henderson Dam upgrade.
It is anticipated that stage 2 restrictions will lead to a 50 per cent reduction in non-essential water consumption.
“The Whitemark water supply is operating with a reduced volume of water in storage due to the Henderson Dam upgrade, which will continue over the summer period,” TasWater Asset Management Services General Manager Matt Derbyshire said.
“We are seeking the community’s support to ensure that water restrictions lead to a reduction in demand to maintain water security for the island.”
Once complete, the Henderson Dam project will improve the safety of the dam as well as increase its storage capacity to better service the Whitemark community for years to come.
Throughout the project, a Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant has been installed at Lady Barron as an additional temporary measure to supplement the water supply as required, but TasWater is still seeking community assistance to reduce demand.
“We appreciate the ongoing support of Whitemark residents throughout the duration of the project, and their assistance in conserving water,” Mr Derbyshire said.
TasWater will continue to monitor the supply closely over the coming months and will update the community on any changes.
“Stage 2 water restrictions have been implemented to ensure that water continues to be available for essential use for everyone,” Mr Derbyshire said.
