TasWater rolls out online water saving resources at HomeFEST

TasWater attended the state’s largest home and renovation event in September to provide home builders and renovators with resources highlighting the importance of saving water.
Run by the Housing Industry Association (HIA), the two‐day HomeFEST event hosted stalls from more than 100 businesses and saw thousands of visitors through the door.
Department Manager Community, Stakeholder and Customer Relations Ruth Dowty said TasWater staff were kept busy offering water saving advice for the home and garden.
“We gave out a lot of water efficiency home audit checklists, a valuable tool for anyone renovating or building a new house,” Ms Dowty said.
“Our fact sheets and online interactive resources were also a hit, giving patrons advice on practical things like water efficient plants and reducing water wastage in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry,” she said.
The online water saving resources are available for everyone and we’d love to see Tasmanians using this free information.
“We encourage the community to consider the question, is your home water efficient? And if not, how can it be?” she said.
TasWater staff also invited attendees to sign up for Tasmania’s first Water Night, a national challenge where households go for one night without using running water.
Water Night is a ‘one bucket challenge’ that will be held on 21 October and asks participants to fill empty bottles for drinking prior to the event and only use one pre‐filled bucket of tap water over a 12‐hour period.
“Our household water is not limitless, it’s a valuable part of our home and family life, but also our livelihood, our cultural practices, our wellbeing and our local environment,” Ms Dowty said.
“By highlighting different ways to conserve this precious resource, we can value water properly and safeguard it effectively for everyone.”
