Asset Art Program

Beautifying our infrastructure one asset at a time. Find out about the history of our award-winning Asset Art program and even explore the locations on our interactive Tassie map.

History of the Program

In 2017 the innovative idea of using street art to tackle unsightly graffiti was approved by our board and CEO. The pilot program rolled out in 2018, across three reservoirs within the Clarence municipality, and a water pump station in Hobart municipality.

The pilot program engaged local youth and mentor artists. Together they planned the theme of each mural and worked together to deliver some of the largest scale murals ever produced in Tasmania. The pilot program delivered on the key outcomes—which were to reduce graffiti and vandalism, and in 2019 it got support from the board and executive team to continue on a statewide basis.

Over time the program evolved from being strictly about graffiti management, and became a way for us to give back to the community. We re-imagined each space and turned it from an ugly eyesore into a beautiful artwork which inspired young people and made the community proud.

Currently there are 24 locations across the state with artwork. With two planned for 2025.

Tolosa Park Reservoir

Tolosa Park in Glenorchy is a community space including playground, skate park, huts for hire and a music bowl.

Currently TasWater is undertaking the Tolosa Park Dam Redevelopment Project in partnership with the Glenorchy City Council (find out more here)

As a part of the redevelopment of the area, reservoirs were built across the road, in preparation for the dam decommissioning. These reservoirs can be seen from the park and is a great opportunity to display art from local artist.

Currently TasWater are in the process of collaborating with local artists to work on a design that reflects the local community. In the coming months, you will be able to vote on your favourite draft design.
