Improving waste management at Legana

A project that will improve the management of waste in the West Tamar region has commenced.
TasWater is upgrading the Tanner Drive Sewage Pump Station at Legana to improve its capacity to handle waste.
TasWater Capital Delivery Office (CDO) Project Delivery Group Leader Fred Eggleston said the works included renewals within the existing pump station and the installation of a new emergency tank.
“These upgrades will help the pump station manage greater inflows of sewage, therefore mitigating potential overflows in the Legana area,” he said.
With increasing development occurring in the West Tamar area, improving and upgrading assets is vital for providing essential services to customers.
“This project will improve public health and environmental compliance outcomes, as well as ensuring our assets deliver reliable service for future generations,” Mr Eggleston said.
“The emergency tank will be able to hold eight hours’ worth of emergency sewage storage.”
This project is part of TasWater’s commitment to investing in reliable wastewater management services across Tasmania.
The pump station upgrade is on track for completion in May 2022 and forms part of TasWater’s 10 year $1.7 billion Capital Works Program.
Also in Legana, works are progressing on upgrading the power supply at the sewage treatment plant. This comes after the installation of new aerators, which are used to help mitigate odour in the area.
