Six of the Best - National Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC) Awards for Excellence
Six TasWater Capital Delivery Office (CDO) staff members have been announced as finalists in the National Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC) Awards for Excellence.
NAWIC, formed in 1995, is an Australian not-for-profit organisation spearheaded by industry leaders advocating and working toward the goal of an equitable construction industry in which women are involved, heard, and making a difference.
The NAWIC provides a forum for members to meet to exchange ideas, share information and solutions. There is a Tasmanian NAWIC Chapter for women in all aspects of the construction industry and water and sewage sectors, whether they are in support roles or ‘on the tools.’
Kate Blizzard, CDO People Leader said it was exciting to have six women announced as finalists in each of their different categories.
“This is a wonderful result; it is so exciting to see our female colleagues gaining recognition within their respective professional fields,” Ms Blizzard said.
“There are seven award categories, and we have a finalist in six of them. That is a credit to the calibre, work ethic and merit of these women who each hold important roles within in the TasWater CDO.
“This result is perhaps not surprising for us, as women make up more than 23 per cent of our talented employee base, almost twice the Australian Contruction Industry Standard for female representation in the workplace,” Ms Blizzard said.

Ms Blizzard said the NAWIC awards were an important recognition of women’s contributions to the industry. “Gender equality and empowerment of women have been advanced in the construction industry, but there is much still to achieve. The NAWIC Awards for Excellence shine a positive light on the progress being made by showcasing inspiring women in these industries to the wider community.
“All six TasWater CDO finalists are to be congratulated, whether they win or not. This is an outstanding achievement that reflects how we value the contribution each of our female colleagues make to delivering infrastructure for TasWater and the people of Tasmania.”
Category winners will be announced in early November 2022.
