TasWater out and about for the Festival of Bright Ideas and Agfest

TasWater’s Community Engagement team has packed up some lab equipment and set up a spot at the Festival of Bright Ideas in Hobart today and tomorrow.

Held as part of National Science Week, The Festival of Bright Ideas celebrates the important role that science, tech, engineering and maths (STEM) plays in our everyday lives.

Community, Stakeholder and Customer Relations Department Manager Ruth Dowty said we have participated in the Festival of Bright Ideas since its inception in 2015 and our teams love the event.

“The festival is an excellent forum to combine the science of water with entertainment and hands-on activities,” Ms Dowty said.

“We will be demonstrating the value of our precious water with lab equipment, beakers, slides, and even microbes to study. Anyone of any age will be able to get involved and learn more about our water and why it is such a valuable resource.”

Held each year for the past 39 years, Agfest is one of the biggest events on the Tasmanian calendar and TasWater will again be in attendance this year.

“Our teams will be on hand so visitors can fill up their drink bottles, craft their own microbes and enjoy other activities for all ages,” Ms Dowty said.

Visitors to our sites may also recognise Bob Goldfish, TasWater’s official Spokesfish, on our signage and merchandise as he shares the Let’s Love Our Water message.

“Education is important, but so is fun. Putting the two together is a great way to spread the word about water.”
