Work to commence on Pioneer water supply pipeline

Project activities to deliver a treated water supply pipeline to the people of Pioneer will commence in October 2022.

The project, which will see a reticulated water supply reintroduced to the town, will deliver safe and reliable drinking water to Pioneer’s residents via the continuation of the Ringarooma Valley water scheme. In addition, the existing TasWater-owned network within the Pioneer township will be replaced.

In June 2022 the construction phase of the project works was placed out to tender, with Tasmanian-owned MSD Civil Services being awarded the contract. MSD Civil Services has delivered similar water supply and reticulation contracts around Tasmania, in both rural and urban environments.

TasWater General Manager Project Delivery Tony Willmott said after an extensive planning process, including considerable community consultation, Pioneer residents will soon see some action on the ground with the installation of the new water system.

“It’s taken a comprehensive design process and a lot of planning to get to this point, and now we’re ready to commence,” Tony said.

He said the people of Pioneer can expect to see project teams and their equipment in the town in October and, while excavation works will cause some short-term disruption, our teams will be working hard to minimise any negative impacts and maintain property access for our customers.

“The people of Pioneer have been waiting for a solution to their drinking water problems for many years and we are excited that work will soon begin to deliver an outcome which benefits the community.”

TasWater is on track to deliver treated water to the town by May 2023.
