Launceston Tamar Estuary River Health Action Plan - St John Street Pump Station Upgrade

What’s this project all about?

TasWater has connected the recently installed sewer pipe along the Esplanade, into our existing sewerage network at the East Tamar Highway /Esplanade intersection, Launceston.

This new connection was the final stage of this project to help increase our capacity to pump sewage from the St John Street Pump Station to our sewage treatment plant.
This upgrade has increased the transfer of sewage and stormwater flows during significant rain events to our Ti Tree Bend Sewage Treatment Plant, and away from kanamaluka/Tamar estuary.

Improvements

This project is one of many we’ll be delivering to improve the operation of Launceston's combined system which manages the flow of both sewage and stormwater.  The TERHAP Projects will help to divert sewage and stormwater flows away from kanamaluka/Tamar estuary, reducing the frequency and volume of overflow events, and helping to keep our waterways cleaner.

TERHAP is jointly funded by the Australian and Tasmanian governments, the City of Launceston and TasWater.
